Pitbulls Launch The Community Project Scheme.

The Bristol Pitbulls Ice Hockey Club is extremely proud to launch the new Pitbulls Community Project. it will ensure the Pitbulls engage and cultivate strong relationships within Bristol and the Southwest ’ communities.

The Pttbulls Community Project will build over the coming season and it is expected to become the cornerstone of the Bristol Pittbulls organisation. It encompasses the hugely successful Bristol junior ice hockey Club as well as The Bristol Ice Hockey Academy programme, Community events and club promotional activities in partnership within Bristol and The Southwest.

The project invites local business and local schools and other educations institutes.
We believe the Pitbulls project will play an important role in building good relationships within local communities.

Beginners Programme

The Bristol Pitbulls ‘Beginners’ sessions are designed to accommodate all age groups and abilities.
Run as a pay as you play scheme and part of the Bristol junior ice hockey club as well the pitbulls Community Foundation project, it's not just a fun way to learn ice hockey skills, it is also a fantastic and innovative way to keep fit and healthy while being taught by top flight hockey players and experts.

The Beginners programme has been running since 1993 and has attract both adults as well as children who wish to learn to play ice hockey.

Rich Hargreaves , Head of the pitbulls Community project Spearheads a team of qualified coaches ,to provided a high quality practices assisted throughout the year by club players

The Pitbulls Learn to Play scheme is run year round, 12 months of the year, 2 sessions per week.

Who can join the Learn to Play?
Anyone can start learning to play ice hockey regardless of age, sex or ability. If you are still holding onto the side you are probably not ready for the Learn to Play but if you can do the basics then just turn up and play.

Many people cannot go backwards or hockey stop when they start but you will soon pick up these skills. If you are not sure whether you are ready just come along and watch.

When, where and how much is it?
Learn to play runs Tuesday 5.00pm to 6.oopm at the Bristol Ice rink (Frogmore street bottom of parkstreet).

Each session costs £4. There's no waiting list and no need to book in advance. Just turn up, pay your £4 and play. If you are not sure of anything just ask Sharon Chilcott (Beginners manager) or Sharon Davies (Child protection officer) their are always people on hand to help or aid anyone who looks lost .

What equipment do I need?
Ice Hockey can be an expensive sport if you buy all the equipment. A typical ice hockey kit bought new starts from around £300. However we can loan you much of what you need for the Learn to Play.

Skates:
Hockey skates are compulsory and not provided by the Learn to Play. Figures skates and hire skates are not suitable for the Learn to Play. Sticks can be provided.


Helmets:
Under 18s must wear a helmet with full-face cage. Adults can choose to wear open face helmets, with visor or with cage. There are a limited number of children's helmets available for the Learn to Play. There are no adult helmets available at the moment. Wearing of helmets is compulsory at all times on the ice.

Protection:
Body armor is recommended but not compulsory. Gloves and elbow pads are compulsory and can be provided by the Learn to Play. Any Ice Hockey shirt will do. If you are wearing full body armor make sure you buy a big enough shirt to compensate. Plain training shirts can be bought for as little as £15

Hockey Pants and athletic supports are not compulsory and are not provided by the Learn to Play. Athletic supports can be purchased alone or with integral garter belt (for holding up hockey socks). Beginners to the LTP often wear jeans or tracksuit bottoms with the shin guards over them.

Shin guards:
Shin guards are compulsory and are provided by the Learn to Play. Hockey socks are not compulsory or provided by the Learn to Play. Hockeys socks are open ended both ends and stretch over the shin guards. They are held up by sock tape (like sellotape) or by garter belts.

From the 17/8/08 the Warriors will once again be opening up there training to new player. to train with the warriors will cost you £10 a go for the first few trainings and then you will need to set up a standing order of £30 a month which will cover ever training from then on.

We get on the ice every Tuesday at 10.30pm for and hour or so but if it is your first time down it is always best to drop me a line on 07762202601 or email me at [email protected] first to confirm that it is OK to come down also i will need to explain a few other things to you.
